Our History

J A Brooks was established in 1925 and has a long, rich heritage in the Public health and Water services in the London and South east and hold an excellent reputation as one of London’s leading plumbing contractors particularly in the Commercial and Industrial sectors with our installations in many of London’s major Landmarks.
Our history since 1925 has witnessed an ever changing industry, with our long established foundations we have adapted to change to the latest technologies and materials whilst maintaining our traditional values.

The Early Days.

J.A. Brooks was formed in 1925 by James (Jimmy) Brooks, who pushed his handcart around the city, servicing the needs of builders such as Walter Lawrence and Son with whom the company continued to trade until they were sold and rebadged in the early 90s along with other property and business owners.

Jimmy was retained in London as an essential service provider during World War Two repairing burst water mains and drains from the bombing raids on London,This proved to be profitable and at the end of the war he managed to build a substantial property portfolio, one being our current offices on the edge of the City of London where the company resides to this day.

In the 1960s the company passed to Raymond Brooks, Jimmy’s son who worked tirelessly to support the future of the plumbing industry. As a key figure in APHC he was also highly influential in the formation of the JIB, Plumbing Pensions and more recently a founding member and Chairman of BPEC training.

Under Raymond Brooks stewardship J A Brooks continued to be influential within the industry, already improving on our excellent reputation J A Brooks became the Public Health Contractor of choice with the foundations to deliver major projects such as the London landmarks detailed above.

Raymond Brooks passed away in 2001 and in recognition of Raymond’s achievements BPEC has launched a new initiative called The Life Award which is in memory of Raymond.
